The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Wednesday, October 29, reacted to the leadership crisis rocking the party’s chapter in Adamawa State.
ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi in a statement urged all aggrieved members of the party in the state to sit back and have a rethink over the brewing leadership crisis.
He also called on those involved to, rather than resort to alternative means of solving the matter at hand, follow the path of reconciliation in line with the decision of the party’s leadership which approved an Interim Executive Committee to handle ADC affairs in the state.
Recall that three factions led by – a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal; Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani and Shehu Yohanna – had laid claim to the party chairmanship position in the state.
With each faction claiming legitimate chairmanship to the ADC chapter in Adamawa, the Lawal loyalists threw their weight behind Sadiq Dasin whom they endorsed as the chairman of the party, pitting themselves against Binani’s team.
In the same vein, the incumbent chairman of Adamawa ADC, Shehu Yohanna, had insisted that he remains the duly recognised leader of the party causing a blowout of political crisis within the coalition party.
Reacting to the tussle, Abdullahi urged all individuals involved to sheathe their swords.
Abdullahi in the statement released on Wednesday said, “It has come to the notice of the national headquarters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that there appears to be a growing division in the ranks of the party leadership in Adamawa State.
“It will be recalled that at its meeting of October 8, 2025, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party approved that Interim Executive Committees be set up to manage the affairs of the party in the states for now.
“After due investigations, the party considers the Saturday, October 25, process supervised by the National Vice Chairman for the North East, which produced Barrister Sadiq Dasin as the Interim Party Chairman in Adamawa State, to be in line with the NWC approval and guidelines,” he noted.
Continuing, Abdullahi said the party wishes to encourage the new Interim Chairman to extend the hand of fellowship to all and address genuine grievances.
“The party would like to restate its commitment to fairness and justice to all members, as well as its readiness to address genuine concerns. The party will, however, not tolerate any act of indiscipline that is likely to jeopardise ongoing efforts to build a strong and truly democratic party,” he added.
