The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan has reaffirmed the commission’s readiness to conduct the November 8, 2025, governorship election in Anambra State.
Amupitan made this assertion at the meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) which took place on Tuesday at the INEC Headquarters in Abuja.
Assuring Nigerians of the commission’s full committment to the forthcoming poll, Amupitan said the electoral body has already concluded a comprehensive readiness assessment across the state.
He also said that he was confident that there would be a smooth conduct of the gubernatorial election in Anambra.
Amupitan revealed that during the election, a total of 24,000 personnel would be deployed across 5,718 polling units.
He also stated that results will be collated at 326 wards, 21 local government areas, and the State Collation Centre in Awka.
According to Amupitan, voting would not take place in two polling units due to the absence of registered voters.
The INEC Chairman reiterated that the commission decided to extend the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection exercise in Anambra State.
Recall that INEC had earlier announced that the deadline for the collection of the PVCs in the state has been reviewed from Wednesday, October 29 to Sunday, November 2, 2025.
The commission in a statement on Monday said its decision followed appeals by voters and stakeholders that only 63.9 per cent of registered voters had collected their PVCs.
INEC, in the statement also urged all duly registered voters in the state to visit their centres across areas and wards in Anambra to collect their PVCs.
In addition, the commission warned that it would not tolerate collection of PVCs by proxy for any voter.
