Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, ex-governor of Kaduna, on Wednesday morning paid a solemn visit to the grave of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State.

Atiku and El-Rufai were seen in a quiet moment of reflection at the gravesite, where they offered prayers for the repose of the late president’s soul.

The two leaders also visited members of the Buhari family to express their sympathies.

Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s military head of state between 1983 and 1985, and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, passed away after a prolonged illness. He was buried in Daura according to Islamic rites.

Atiku, in earlier tributes, described Buhari as a “patriot who served Nigeria with commitment,” while El-Rufai noted that “history will remember him for his discipline and nationalistic ideals.”

The late president’s passing continues to draw tributes from within and outside Nigeria, with national flags flying at half-mast and preparations underway for official memorial ceremonies.
