JUST IN: Bauchi Electoral Commission Chairman, Hardawa Dies In Abuja

The Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa, has passed away.

His death was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Bauchi State Governor, Mukhtar Gidado, who said the late electoral chief died on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in Abuja following a brief illness.

Governor Bala Mohammed described Hardawa’s death as a profound loss, offering his heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, associates, and the people of Bauchi State.

“Late Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa was a distinguished statesman, an accomplished public servant, and a patriotic Nigerian whose meritorious service to Bauchi State and the nation at large left a lasting legacy,” the governor said.

Governor Mohammed further hailed Hardawa for his integrity and contributions to democratic processes both at the national and state levels.

Naijaonpoint reports that the deceased previously served as Resident Electoral Commissioner in Taraba and Nasarawa States, where he was praised for unwavering integrity, diligence, and fairness.

As Chairman of BASIEC, Hardawa was credited with deepening grassroots democracy by promoting transparent and credible local government elections.

“His commitment to the rule of law and institutional development earned him the respect of colleagues, political actors, and the general public,” Gidado noted.

Governor Mohammed further described the late Hardawa as “a man of wisdom, humility, and exemplary leadership”, adding that his wealth of experience and service orientation would be sorely missed, particularly at a time when the state continues to navigate key democratic milestones.

The Janazah (funeral prayer) for the late Hardawa will be held today, Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi, at 5:00 p.m.

The governor prayed for Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, and give the family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
