Nigeria’s national grid suffered another collapse on Monday, plunging most parts of the country into darkness.
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) confirmed the collapse in a statement on X on Monday.
Fresh data from the Nigeria national grid indicated that power generation crashed to 50 megawatts at 3:12 p.m.
During the outage period, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) received 30MW, while Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) got 20MW.
Other distribution companies, including Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt and Yola, recorded zero allocation.
The grid managers confirmed the system failure and assured Nigerians that electricity supply would be restored soon.
However, no definite timeline was provided for the restoration exercise.
The latest collapse adds to the recurring concerns over the nation’s fragile power infrastructure.
