Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, the Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial District has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmaker confirmed his defection on Tuesday, November 11, in an official letter addressed to the Nigerian Senate.
Jarigbe had earlier announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but made his decision to join the APC formally on the floor of the plenary today.
Reading Jarigbe’s letter to lawmakers of the Red Chamber, the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin said the Cross River Senate dumped the PDP over a lingering crisis within the party.
Jibrin also described Jarigbe’s defection to the APC as a “wonderful announcement”.
He said, “Wonderful announcement, you can guess”, Jibrin told his colleagues in the Senate.
Continuing, he added, “Very sweet. Our brother Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, a very very experienced legislator who started from the House of Representatives down to the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria… And you know when such people are making announcements, you have to listen very well.”
With the lawmaker’s defection, all senators representing the three senatorial districts in Cross River State are now members of the ruling APC.
The other two are Senator Eteng Williams, representing Cross River Central and Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, who represents Cross River South Senatorial District.
