Former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday Udeh-Okoye, has formally resigned his membership of the party.
In a resignation letter addressed to his Agbogugu Ward Chairman in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Udeh-Okoye cited the loss of the party’s founding ideals as the reason for his decision.
He expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities it had given him to serve as a member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, National Youth Leader, and most recently, National Secretary.
According to him, the principles of unity, justice, and equity on which the PDP was founded have been eroded.
Udeh-Okoye lamented that the party, which once stood as a beacon of hope for democratic governance in Nigeria, has lost its moral compass and ideological direction.
Although he did not disclose his next political move, he stated that he intends to embark on a “progressive journey” aimed at restoring the values of democracy, accountability, and service to the people—values he believes the PDP has abandoned.
Reports indicate that Udeh-Okoye’s resignation is part of a growing wave of defections by prominent PDP members in the Southeast, a development linked to the party’s lingering internal crisis.
Udeh-Okoye was earlier nominated by the PDP’s South East Zonal Working Committee to replace Senator Sam Anyanwu, who left his position to contest the Imo governorship election, but the nomination was rejected.
