The Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation in Kano, Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, has resigned his appointment with immediate effect, citing prevailing political turmoil in the state.

Kofarmata announced his decision in a resignation letter addressed to the appropriate authorities.

He said the current political climate could undermine the independence and impartiality required of his office.

According to him, the growing atmosphere of tension and expectations of loyalty and allegiance could create the perception or reality of compromised judgement.

“The integrity of the State Commissioner’s role rests on the ability to act without undue influence, partisan pressure, or divided allegiance,” Kofarmata said.

He said remaining in office under the circumstances might erode public confidence in the institution.

Kofarmata said his decision to step aside was taken to safeguard the credibility of the office and preserve his commitment to ethical public service.

He expressed gratitude to the Kano state government for the opportunity to serve.

“I remain grateful for the opportunity to have served in various ministries and for the trust placed in me during my tenure,” he said.

Kofarmata said his tenure allowed him to contribute to policy reforms and development efforts in the state.

He added that he hoped his resignation would enable the institution to function “without question or constraint”.

Kofarmata formally requested that his resignation be accepted as his official notice of disengagement from the Kano state executive council.

His resignation comes Governor Abba Yusuf resigned from the New Nigeria’s Peoples Party and joined the All Progressives Congress.
