Samaila Bambu, deputy speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, has been abducted by suspected bandits believed to be members of the Lakurawa terrorist group.
Sources familiar with the incident said the lawmaker was kidnapped on Friday evening in his hometown, Bagudo, located in Bagudo Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the development, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, told Daily Trust that he had just received information about the incident.
“Yes, I just got the information about the alleged abduction of the Deputy Speaker in his hometown this evening. I am in touch with the Director of Security in the state,” Idris said.
He added that the state government was working closely with security agencies to ensure Bambu’s safe release.
“Once I get the details of what transpired, I will alert you very soon on the government’s position. I can assure you that the state government is on top of the situation and will ensure he is released safely,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, no group has claimed responsibility for the abduction, and efforts to reach security officials for further details were ongoing.
