The governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris on Thursday approved the appointment of Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami as the new Emir of Zuru.

Sami’s appointment as the new Emir of Zuru was announced by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Dutsin-Mari.

Dutsin-Mari while presenting the appointment letter to the new Emir said this move by the state government follows the recommendation by the state’s election committee.

In a statement issued by Ahmed Idris, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State governor, three candidates applied for the position of the Emir of Zuru.

Idris said all the applicants who applied were screened by the Zuru Emirate Emir-ship election committee.

He noted that Sami got the highest votes, hence clinched the throne.

Speaking after receiving his letter, the new Emir thanked the Governor for approving his appointment as the new Emir.

Sami’s appointment follows the death of His Royal Highness, late Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Sami Gomo II.

The late Emir died at a London hospital on August 16, 2025.
