Just In: Kwara Local Govt Declares Curfew Over Insecurity Fears

The Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State has declared curfew across the Oro-Ago district over rising cases of insecurity in the area.

This development was confirmed in a statement made available to Naijaonpoint on Wednesday by the local government chairman, Hadji Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf.

According to the statement signed on his behalf by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulquadri Jimba, the curfew goes into effect by 6 am on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 and would affect human and vehicular traffic in the entire district.

He explained that the action was taken to support the ongoing security clearance operation in the area, promising that updates would be provided when the situation is reviewed.

“The curfew goes into effect by 6 am on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, in a coordinated effort to put terrorists in disarray and protect lives and property in the area.

“Within this period, there will be no human or vehicular traffic in the entire district. This is in support of the ongoing security clearance operation in the area. Further reviews of this measure will be communicated,” the statement said.

Recall that recently, the Kwara State Government ordered the immediate closure of the Kwara State College of Education, Oro, following worsening security concerns in the area.

The directive was contained in an internal memo dated January 20, 2026, issued by the Kwara State Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology.

The memo, signed by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, instructed the management of the institution to shut down all academic activities with immediate effect, in line with the directive of AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the state governor.

According to the document, the decision was taken in response to rising insecurity around the institution and formed part of a broader government order to close all schools within the affected local government area.
