The Nigerian Armed Forces on Friday held a grand Pulling Out Parade in honour of Christopher Musa, the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, marking the end of his 39-year military career.
The ceremony took place at the Mogadishu Cantonment Parade Ground in Abuja, attracting senior military officers, dignitaries, family members, and friends who gathered to celebrate his service to the nation.
In his valedictory address as the special guest of honour, Musa expressed gratitude to God, the Armed Forces, and President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve.
His words: “This Pulling Out Parade is not just a ceremony; it is a sacred military tradition that marks the end of a journey of service that lasted over 39 years and the beginning of a new chapter in life.
“I am totally humbled as I reflect on the incredible privilege it has been to serve our great nation, Nigeria, in the noble profession of arms.”
The retired officer thanked Tinubu for the “immeasurable honour and trust” reposed in him and extended his best wishes to his successor and other service chiefs.
“The security of our nation is in capable hands,” he said, urging officers and men of the Armed Forces to remain loyal and committed to Nigeria’s unity and sovereignty.
Musa also paid tribute to his family, describing them as his “fortress and sanctuary” who endured the sacrifices of his long absences and deployments.
“I have witnessed your raw courage in the face of danger, your resilience in the most arduous conditions, and your unwavering commitment to the unity and peace of Nigeria. You are the best of us,” he said of the Armed Forces.
He thanked Nigerians, particularly the youth, for their prayers and faith in a better country, and appreciated the media for its contribution to national security.
Reflecting on his career, Musa said he was leaving “with a clear conscience,” proud of his contributions to national peace and stability.
“I may be retiring from the Army, but I am not retiring from my love for Nigeria. I remain a soldier at heart, ever loyal to the Constitution and the flag of our great nation,” he said.
The event featured a ceremonial parade, symbolic pulling-out rites, and a final march past, drawing applause from attendees.
