The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has called off its seven-day warning strike, which began earlier this week over unmet welfare and professional demands.

The suspension of the strike was announced on Saturday by the association’s Assistant Secretary-General, Chidi Aligwe.

Nurses and midwives across the country had downed tools on Wednesday to push for a range of improvements in their working conditions. Among their key demands were an upward review of shift and uniform allowances, a dedicated salary structure for nurses, an increase in core duty allowance, mass recruitment of nursing professionals, and the creation of a separate Department of Nursing within the Federal Ministry of Health.
