The leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has reacted to the resignation of the governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf from the party.
The NNPP said it has no other option but to accept the governor’s decision to leave the party.
Recall that Governor Yusuf had announced his resignation from the NNPP on Friday citing a lingering leadership crisis rocking the party.
He also announced that he was dumping the NNPP alongside 21 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, and 44 local government chairmen across the state.
The governor’s resignation from the NNPP comes days after he met with President Bola Tinubu at the presidential Villa in Aso Rock Abuja.
Dressed in his signature white babaringa and red kwankwasiyya movement cap, the governor’s visit also followed a series of rumours concerning his alignment with the president and the ruling party considering the long-standing crisis within the NNPP.
However, receiving the governor’s letter, the Secretary of Diso-Chiranchi Ward, Kabiru Zubairu, commended Yusuf for his committment to delivering good governance to the people of Kano State since assuming office.
Zubairu also aligned with the governor’s reason for leaving the NNPP while stating that the party leadership was doing its best to contain the crisis.
“I wish to concur with His Excellency on the lingering crisis in our party. Though we are trying our best to contain it, we have no option than to accept the resignation of one of the most performing governors of the NNPP,” Zubairu said.
Highlighting some of the achievements of the governor in the state, Zubairu said Yusuf has shown exceptionalism in driving the affairs of the states
He said the governor has a litany of achievements in areas like infrastructure, urban renewal, health, education and economic empowerment.
