Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland, is dead.

He was aged 91.

The revered monarch passed away on Sunday.

Oba Adetona was born on May 10, 1934. Until his death, he served as the Awujale of the Ijebu Kingdom, a traditional state in Nigeria.

He was installed as king on April 2, 1960, making him one of the longest-reigning monarchs in Nigeria. He belonged to the House of Anikinaiya.

His death came just hours after the passing of Muhammadu Buhari, his long-time friend.

Buhari died at a clinic in London, United Kingdom, after battling illness for some time.
