The Osun State Government has suspended further dealings with the state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, following what it described as a deepening leadership crisis and controversy surrounding the body.
The government announced the decision in a statement issued by the commissioner for information and public enlightenment , kolapo alimi, on Sunday, citing ongoing disputes within the NYCN and concerns over issues related to allocated resources.
According to the statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Alimi, the state ordered an investigation into the crisis through a three-man committee made up of unaffiliated nominees.
“Following ongoing controversy and leadership crisis within the state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, the state government has suspended further dealings with the body pending the outcome of ongoing investigations,” the release said.
While the probe is ongoing, the government said it would implement a directive earlier issued by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to ministries and stakeholders in the youth sector.
The statement noted that the Federal Ministry had, in late 2025, communicated the withdrawal of the NYCN’s certificate of registration by the Corporate Affairs Commission and had also discontinued dealings with the national leadership of the council.
According to the government, the federal action was taken due to “deep-rooted infighting, factionalisation and confrontations” within the organisation.
“As the Osun State chapter is also now enmeshed in a similar crisis, the government hereby suspends further dealings with the body pending the outcome of the investigation,” the release added.
The government also addressed what it described as attempts by the opposition to politicise developments within the youth sector, assuring residents that steps had been taken to restore stability.
“The government wishes to assure the public that normalcy, transparency and accountability will be restored to the sector through the machinery already set in motion,” the statement said.
