The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved November 15 and 16 as the dates for electing new members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
The decision was ratified during the NEC meeting held on Thursday at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja.
Previously, PDP governors had proposed August 28 for the national convention during a period of internal crisis surrounding the position of national secretary.
Reading from the communiqué released after the meeting, PDP spokesperson Debo Ologunagba reassured members that the party remains “strong and united.”
“Pursuant to the foregoing, NEC approved the year 2025 elective national convention schedule of activities and timetable,” the communique reads.
“Under the approved timetable, the elective national convention to elect the next set of national officers of our party will be held on Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.”
Ologunagba said NEC directed Umar Damagum, the acting national chairman, and Samuel Anyanwu, the national secretary, to write to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) about the election’s time, venue, and agenda.
He stated that the NEC approved the composition of both the national convention committee and the zoning committee, aiming to ensure the party’s elective national convention is successful, transparent, and credible.
Ologunagba also noted that the NEC instructed the National Working Committee (NWC) to immediately initiate legal proceedings to reclaim the seats of all PDP-elected members in the national and state assemblies who have defected to other political parties.
He added that the NEC voiced strong disapproval over the involvement of certain PDP members in the activities and meetings of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
“NEC urges these members to reconsider their actions and demonstrate loyalty and commitment to the PDP, especially as the law prohibits simultaneous membership in two political parties,” he said.
The PDP NEC adjourned and fixed its next (102nd) meeting to Monday, 25th August, 2025.
