JUST IN: Police arrest 116 suspected criminals in Abuja raids

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested 116 suspected criminals during raids on identified black spots in Abuja.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to rid the nation’s capital of illicit drugs and related crimes.

“Police officers attached to the Anti-Narcotics Section of FCT Police Command carried out several coordinated raids across identified black spots from August 1, to August 20, 2025.

“The operations, which covered areas including Asokoro, Trademore, Mpape, Kurudu, Kubwa, Gwarimpa, Jikwoyi, Utako, Life Camp, Zuba, and Karshi, led to the arrest of 116 suspect,” Adeh said.

The spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command said exhibits recovered from the suspects included various illicit substances, hard drugs, and dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

She noted that after thorough screening, 89 suspects were released, while the remaining offenders were charged to court for public nuisance and possession of illicit drugs.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, commended the operatives for their efforts and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to keeping the capital city safe and drug-free.

He further urged residents to remain law-abiding, avoid drug abuse and trafficking, and support the ongoing security drive.
