The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to the death of fast-rising singer, Adesina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy.
Police authorities said the arrest followed preliminary findings into the circumstances surrounding the young artiste’s death.
The case has now been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department. It is being handled by the Homicide Section for a deeper probe.
In an official update issued on Monday, the command said, “The Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing.”
Moreover, the confirmation comes amid widespread public reaction after news of Destiny Boy’s death surfaced on Sunday. Several videos showing his lifeless body being transported to a mortuary circulated online. The footage triggered grief among fans and raised questions about what led to his sudden passing.
In one of the videos, the singer was seen lying at the back of a vehicle. Cotton wool was placed in his nostrils and ears. The images quickly spread across social media platforms.
As speculation intensified, a separate video later emerged. In the clip, an unidentified associate of the late singer attempted to address the growing controversy. He claimed Destiny Boy had been dealing with a personal health issue before his death.
He said, “God, I want to do this video before people start saying rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death. We all came to this life to write our own history. May God rest his soul. Destiny was nursing a health issue in his body before he died. We tried for him, but he didn’t make it.”
Destiny Boy, born Afeez Adeshina, started his journey in music at an early age. He developed a unique sound by blending Fuji with contemporary street pop. His early days were spent at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos, where he worked as a backup dancer for Fuji star, Pasuma.
He gained national attention in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song If. The song went viral and opened doors for wider recognition. He later released covers of songs by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice and Small Doctor.
Over the years, Destiny Boy dropped several original tracks. These include Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey. His music earned him a loyal street following, especially among young listeners.
In his personal life, the late singer welcomed his first child with his partner, Iremide, in November 2024.
However, police say investigations are still ongoing. They added that more information will be made public as the case progresses.
