The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit of the Borno State Police Command has commenced routine sweeps at worship centres and recreational areas across the state.
The move comes twenty-four (24) after the suicide attack at a Maidugiri Mosque in Gamboru Market on Wednesday, December 24.
The exercise followed a directive by Naziru Abdulmajid, Commissioner of Police in Borno, to ensure safety and a hitch-free Christmas celebration.
In a statement by ASP Nahum Daso, the police spokesman in the state, the command said the EOD unit, Base 13 Maiduguri, carried out scanning and screening of persons and vehicles in public spaces.
The police said the operation was aimed at proactive safety and security of residents during the festive period.
The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements or objects.
It said such reports can be made at the nearest police station or through emergency numbers 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293.
