Two individuals were killed and three others abducted by gunmen in Ganmu village, near Babanla, in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The victims were reportedly travelling from Lagos to Babanla when their vehicle developed a flat tyre near the community.

As they attempted to fix it, they were ambushed by five armed men who opened fire.

The deceased have been identified as Alhaji Abdulrazak Ewenla, a native of Ajia village, and Jimoh Audu from Ganmu.

Those abducted include Kazeem Ajide, Wahidi, and Mufutau, though the surnames of the latter two are yet to be confirmed.

In response to the attack, security forces comprising police officers, military personnel, and local vigilantes were deployed to the area to ensure safety and track the assailants.

The Kwara State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday.

The statement also addressed a circulating video that claimed residents had deserted the village, clarifying the current security situation.

The Command further noted that a full investigation is underway, with rescue efforts ongoing to ensure the safe return of the abducted individuals and the apprehension of the attackers.
