WATCH THE VIDEO HERE The Nigeria Police Force has invited the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, for questioning regarding an incident that took place during the Eid festival in Kano. Earlier, the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, had cancelled all durbar activities, particularly the equestrian procession, citing security concerns. Despite this, while the Emir was en route to attend prayers at Kofar Mata Eid Ground on March 30, a member of the vigilante group protecting him was fatally stabbed, and several others were injured. According to sources, following the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had instructed the Kano State Commissioner of Police to arrest the Emir. However, the Commissioner reportedly explained to the IGP that the incident was unrelated to the violation of the durbar ban and that the Emir did not use horses to visit the Government House as per tradition. Dissatisfied with this explanation, the IGP directed the Force Intelligence Department to take over the investigation and summon the Emir to Abuja for questioning. In a letter signed by Commissioner of Police, Olajide Ibitoye, the police formally invited the Emir to appear before the Force Intelligence Department on Tuesday, April 8, at 10:00 AM. The letter read: “I have the directives of the Inspector General of Police, through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID) to invite you for an investigative meeting with regards to an incident that occurred during the Sallah celebration within your domain. “In view of the above, you are hereby invited to Force Intelligence Department, opposite Police Force Headquarters Area 11, Abuja by 1000hrs of Tuesday 8th of April, 2025. “Your availability is highly sought for a purposeful investigation. “Accept the warm regards of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, please.”
