The Borno State Police Command has uncovered an unexploded bomb on farmland in Dikwa Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesperson Nahum Daso confirmed the discovery in a statement on Monday.
Daso explained that the suspicious device was first sighted by a farmer, Babagana Kachalla, who promptly alerted security operatives.
Following the report, Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, deployed an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to the scene.
“The UXO, identified as a cluster bomb unit (CBU) measuring about 2.2 metres in length and 30 centimetres in width, was found partially buried,” the statement said. “In line with EOD-CBRN protocols, the area was cordoned off, and the device was safely neutralised through in-situ demolition before extraction.”
Daso added that the operation was concluded successfully without casualties, while residents of the community were sensitised on safety measures and the importance of promptly reporting suspicious objects.
