The Presidency has refuted reports circulating that President Bola Tinubu has removed Professor Mahmood Yakubu from his position as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The rumors, which began spreading early on Monday, suggested that Yakubu had been dismissed and replaced by Professor Bashiru Olamilekan in what was described as a major shake-up in the leadership of the electoral body.

In response, O’tega Ogra, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Digital and New Media, labeled the reports as false and urged the public to ignore them.

“Disregard any fake news regarding the replacement of the INEC Chairman,” Ogra wrote in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter).

He further clarified that any official announcement regarding such a decision would come from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation or another official communication channel.

“Any such announcement will come from the SGF’s office or another authorized source,” he added.

The misleading report, which sparked widespread discussion across various social media platforms, has been debunked, with no confirmation from the Presidency or any federal agency.
