JUST IN: Saudi Arabia declares Sunday Eid-el-Fitr

In a significant announcement, Saudi Arabian authorities confirmed the sighting of the crescent moon marking the beginning of Shawwal and the conclusion of Ramadan.

As a result, this year’s Ramadan will span 29 days, and Eid-el-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30, 2025, in the Kingdom.

“The crescent moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia. Eid-Al-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30, 2025,” Haramain, a Saudi-based online resource, posted on X.

“May Allah accept our siyām, qiyām, and a’māl, and may He grant us the blessing of witnessing many more Ramadans in good health. Āmīn.”

Meanwhile, on March 28, Sultan Muhammad Abubakar of Sokoto urged Muslims in Nigeria to observe the sky for the new moon of Shawwal 1445 AH, with a potential sighting expected on Monday.

This follows the Nigerian federal government’s announcement of Monday and Tuesday as public holidays for the occasion.

Muslims in Nigeria are now awaiting the moon sighting and the Sultan’s declaration to officially mark the start of Eid celebrations.

Since March 1, Muslims worldwide have been fasting from dawn to dusk, abstaining from food, drink, and physical intimacy, as part of the sacred month of Ramadan, which lasts 29 or 30 days.
