Tragedy befell Yelewata on Friday night when suspected armed herdsmen initiated a lethal assault at approximately 10:00 pm, resulting in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries.
Reports obtained by Naijaonpoint on Saturday morning indicated that at least 16 individuals suffered from varying levels of injuries during the attack.
The precise count of those deceased remains unverified, as authorities are actively collecting information from the incident site.
In reaction to a distress signal, personnel from the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) proceeded to the location but were ambushed in Daudu while on their way.
This ambush led to the unfortunate deaths of two soldiers and one Civil Defence officer.
“These brave men paid the ultimate price in service to our people. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” a community source told Daily Post, mourning the fallen security operatives.
Survivors of the assault are presently undergoing treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) located in Makurdi.
Medical staff have issued an urgent request for blood donations to help save the lives of those injured.
Citizens and humanitarian organisations have been called upon to offer immediate assistance to the victims, particularly in the form of blood donations and medical support.
“My heartfelt condolences go to the families of the victims, especially our fallen heroes in uniform,” said a concerned resident, who also refrained from sharing graphic images from the scene out of respect for the victims and community standards.
