The Senate on Thursday confirmed Bernard Doro as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after a screening session that lasted less than 30 minutes.
Naijaonpoint reports that Doro, who becomes the third ministerial nominee from Plateau State in the present administration, used the opportunity to outline his plans for building what he described as an “inclusive humanitarian ecosystem.”
Addressing the lawmakers, Doro said his vision was to foster inclusivity and fairness in the country’s humanitarian sector.
“My commitment is to create a humanitarian ecosystem that is inclusive, impartial, and guided by independence,” he stated.
After a few questions, senators expressed satisfaction with his credentials and capacity to serve, before asking him to take a bow and leave.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had last week written to the Senate seeking the expeditious screening and confirmation of Doro, in line with Section 147 (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The letter, read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, was referred to the Committee of the Whole for consideration, which swiftly approved the nomination.
Doro’s nomination followed the emergence of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda as the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman in July. Yilwatda had previously served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction before his elevation.
