Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Kebbi State to meet with state officials and the families of the schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, by armed gunmen.

The Vice President’s aircraft touched down at Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi. He was accompanied by the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar, and other senior government officials.

VP Shettima’s visit follows a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He is expected to deliver the President’s message to the people of Kebbi State and receive a detailed briefing on the abduction for onward communication to the President.

The attack on the school tragically claimed the life of the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, who was reportedly killed while attempting to prevent the kidnappers from taking the girls.

The police confirmed that a combined tactical team has been deployed to comb the forest in an effort to rescue the abducted students.

President Tinubu condemned the attack, commiserated with the families affected, and postponed his scheduled trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, to attend the 20th G20 Summit and the 7th AU–EU Summit, respectively.
