Vice President Kashim Shettima and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, have arrived in London, United Kingdom, to receive the body of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday.
The Vice President and the Chief of Staff led the Nigerian delegation to London early Monday morning.
The delegation was received in the UK by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum; and other top officials.
President Bola Tinubu had, on Sunday, directed Shettima and Gbajabiamila to lead the team representing Nigeria in the formal process of repatriating Buhari’s remains for burial.
Buhari died in London on Sunday at about 4:30 pm, following a prolonged illness. However, the nature of the illness was not disclosed.
President Tinubu promptly ordered that national flags be flown at half-mast as a mark of honour for the late statesman and extended his heartfelt condolences to Buhari’s family.
