President Bola Tinubu has appointed Chisom Obih to the governing council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State.
Obih’s appointment follows the death of a council member.
Tinubu also appointed Ralph Akinfeleye, communications scholar and former head of the mass communication department at the University of Lagos, to the governing council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun state.
Akinfeleye replaces Wahab Owokoniran, who was named pro-chancellor and chairman of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina state.
The president further named Ibrahim Yakasai as vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara state.
Yakasai, a retired army colonel and provost of the college of health sciences at Bayero University, Kano, is also chairman of the committee of provosts of colleges of medicine in Nigeria.
He obtained an MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and later studied in the United Kingdom, earning membership and fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
Yakasai holds a master’s in medical education from the University of Winchester and fellowships from the International College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.
Tinubu also appointed Hamisu Yelwa as registrar, Usman Sanusi as bursar, and Shehu Liman as librarian of the university.
