JUST IN: Tinubu appoints Ogunjimi as accountant-general of federation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation, following a thorough and merit-based selection process. This appointment, effective from March 7, 2025, coincides with the retirement of the current Accountant General, Oluwatoyin Madehin.

Ogunjimi, 57, was initially announced as Madehin’s successor in December 2024. His appointment was finalized after a competitive and rigorous evaluation process conducted by a specialized committee. The process included a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews, ensuring that only the most qualified candidate was chosen.

In a statement released on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, it was highlighted that the president’s decision reflects his commitment to transparency, competence, and excellence in public service appointments.

Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is also a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment and urged him to execute his duties with the utmost professionalism, integrity, and dedication to the service of the nation. Ogunjimi’s appointment is expected to enhance fiscal accountability and improve the efficiency of government financial management, supporting the administration’s focus on good governance and economic reforms.
