Just In: Tinubu Departs Lagos For Mahama’s Inauguration In Ghana

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Lagos for Accra, Ghana, to attend the inauguration ceremony of Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, scheduled for Tuesday.

The president, who spent the festive season in Lagos, left the Murtala Mohammed International Airport earlier today.

Naijaonpoint reports that the Nigerian leaders visit follows an invitation from Mahama, who had previously met with President Tinubu during a December visit to Nigeria.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.

The statement, titled ‘President Tinubu to Attend the Inauguration of Ghana’s President-elect, John Mahama,’ highlighted the strong ties between the two leaders.

Onanuga noted, “Mahama and President Tinubu have a longstanding personal relationship, just like Nigeria and Ghana maintain a longstanding bilateral relationship.”

John Dramani Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s 12th president from 2011 to 2017, was re-elected in December 2024, succeeding President Nana Akufo-Addo.

As the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Tinubu will join other African leaders at the inauguration to celebrate the democratic transition.

Accompanying the president on this official trip are the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior government officials.
