The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has asked President Bola Tinubu to forget about extending his stay in office, insisting that Nigerians will not allow him to remain beyond 2027.
In a statement on Monday, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, said the president has failed in all critical areas, adding that “he should be preparing to leave, not plotting to stay”.
Abdullahi described the presidency’s response to recent comments by Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna, as “presumptuous and patently undemocratic”.
El-Rufai had alleged that Tinubu harbours plans to rule for life, but the presidency dismissed the claim.
“The president’s mandate ends in 2027, and Nigerians will not wish to extend his tenure by a single day.
“In two short years, Tinubu has divided the country like no other president before him, deepened poverty, and allowed insecurity to metastasize into a national trauma,” Abdullahi said.
He accused the president of presiding over a collapsing economy, worsening hunger, and overseeing “a system increasingly authoritarian in tone and hostile to accountability”.
“Let it be said clearly and without ambiguity: Nigeria is not Lagos. Come 2027, it won’t be APC versus ADC; it will be APC versus the Nigerian people,” he said.
