Donald Trump, 78, has been sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, marking a historic comeback four years after losing to Joe Biden.

The Republican leader vowed to immediately implement sweeping changes on immigration and US cultural policies, setting the tone for his second term in office.

In contrast to his outsider status at his first inauguration in 2017, Trump’s second swearing-in saw him surrounded by some of America’s wealthiest and most powerful figures.

Billionaires Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, and Sundar Pichai were among the high-profile attendees seated alongside Trump’s cabinet members at the Capitol.

Musk, who contributed $250 million to Trump’s campaign and champions far-right policies on X (formerly Twitter), is expected to spearhead cost-cutting initiatives in the new administration.

Biden Restores Tradition

Breaking from Trump’s refusal to attend Biden’s 2021 inauguration, the outgoing president joined former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton at the ceremony.

Former first ladies Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush were also in attendance, though Michelle Obama was notably absent.

Departing from tradition, foreign leaders attended Trump’s inauguration, including Argentina’s hard-right president Javier Milei and Italy’s far-right Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Due to icy conditions, Trump’s inauguration was moved indoors, the first time since Ronald Reagan’s 1985 swearing-in. This change meant missing the customary massive crowds along the National Mall.

Behind the scenes, Trump wasted no time in rolling out his nationalist, right-wing agenda. An official from his administration revealed plans for approximately 100 executive orders aimed at reversing Biden’s legacy.

Key Priorities Include:

– Immigration Crackdown: Trump will declare a national emergency at the Mexico border, deploy the military to secure the frontier, and end birthright citizenship. Immediate deportations of undocumented migrants are also on the agenda.

– Cultural Policies: Trump plans to sign an order recognizing only two biological sexes, effectively rolling back diversity initiatives within the federal government.

– Undoing Biden’s Legacy: Executive orders will target federal programs introduced under Biden, aiming to eliminate diversity and inclusion efforts.
