JUST IN: Two Southeast states to experience 2-day blackouts – EEDC

Electricity transmission

Two states in the Southeast – Enugu and Anambra states – would be experiencing a two-day power outage, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has said.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Emeka Ezeh, the Group Head, Corporate Communications at EEDC said there would blackout between Sunday and Monday in the states.

According to Ezeh, the blackout is aimed at giving the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) the opportunity to replace a faulty overhead porcelain insulator at the 330kV switchyard at the Awada transmission plant, Anambra State.

Titled, “Notice of planned outage in Anambra State and parts of Enugu State’, the statement informed customers residing in Anambra including Oji River of the blackout.

The statement also said that surrounding communities would be affected by the planned outage.

He said the outage has been scheduled to occur between Sunday, August 31, 2025, and Monday September 1, 2025.

He said the outage will commence between 9 am and 6 pm on each of the said days.

“The outage is necessary to allow the Transmission Company of Nigeria maintenance crew to replace faulty overhead porcelain insulators at the 330kV switchyard in Awada.

“As a result of this maintenance, the electricity supply will be interrupted in the affected areas during the specified times.

“We regret the inconvenience this may cause and kindly ask for our customers’ understanding.

“The exercise is aimed at improving and enhancing the quality of service,” Ezeh noted.
