Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has approved the release of ₦2.321 billion to pay pension entitlements, gratuities, and death benefits to retirees and families of deceased civil servants across the state.
According to the state government, the latest disbursement covers accrued rights under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and benefits under the old Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).
With this release, the Kaduna State Government has paid out a total of ₦6.678 billion in 2025 alone and ₦13.5 billion since the beginning of Governor Sani’s administration two years ago.
Announcing the development on Saturday, the Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, said the welfare of pensioners remains a top priority of the Uba Sani administration.
He noted that the state government was committed to regular and timely payments to ease the hardship faced by senior citizens who dedicated their lives to public service.
“Governor Uba Sani has made it clear that pensioners must be treated with dignity and respect. Regular payments are part of our effort to ensure their comfort and stability,” Maiyaki stated.
The Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Pension Bureau, Ibrahim Balarabe, explained that the latest round of payments would benefit a total of 661 retirees and families of deceased workers across state and local governments.
According to him, ₦1.736 billion has been earmarked for accrued rights of 511 retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme, while ₦585 million will go to 315 pensioners and next-of-kin under the Defined Benefit Scheme.
“For those under the Contributory Pension Scheme, their accrued rights will be credited directly into their Retirement Savings Accounts (RSAs) with their Pension Fund Administrators,” Balarabe said.
He added that pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme would soon be invited for screening and verification before their payments are made.
The Pension Bureau further noted that Governor Sani has consistently maintained that ensuring the dignity of retirees is not just a statutory duty, but a moral obligation of any responsible government.
“This approval underscores the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the livelihoods of pensioners, upholding their rights, and strengthening the trust and morale of the Kaduna workforce,” the statement read.
