In a significant stride against the proliferation of arms and terrorist activities, gallant troops of the 37 Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Demonstration Battalion have demonstrated their unwavering commitment to national security by apprehending three suspected gunrunners in Kaduna State.
In a statement, Director Defence Media Operations (DDMO), Major General Markus Kangye noted that the operation, conducted on Thursday, was a result of meticulous planning and actionable intelligence that led to the interception and subsequent arrest of the suspects: Yakubu Jibril (45), Abubakar Yahaya (45), and Isiya Sani (30).
”The suspects were caught red-handed while travelling in a black Golf 4 vehicle with Registration Number ABUJA 385 K7 along the Kauya–Old Afaka–Sabon Birni Road in Igabi Local Government Area of the the State. A thorough search of the vehicle revealed a significant cache of arms and ammunitions, indicating their nefarious intentions to supply criminal elements in remote areas. Among the items seized were 9 x AK-47 rifles, 389 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) live ammunition, 54 rounds of 5.56 x 45mm (NATO) ammunition, 17 rifle magazines, GSM handsets, other incriminating items and cash sum of Three Hundred and Sixty Five Thousand, Six Hundred Naira.
”The successful arrest and seizure highlight the effectiveness of the Nigerian Armed Forces in combating insurgency and criminal activities. The suspects are currently in custody, undergoing rigorous interrogation and investigation to dismantle the entire network involved in illicit arms trafficking. This operation underscores the military’s relentless efforts to safeguard citizens, particularly in regions vulnerable to insurgent and bandit activities,” he stated.
Gn. Kangye added,”The Chief of Defence Staff has commended the troops for their proactive response and reassured the public of ongoing security operations with heightened vigilance.
”This resolute action sends a clear message to all criminal elements that the Nigerian Armed Forces are resolute in their mission to ensure the safety and security of the populace.
”The recovered arms and ammunitions serve as tangible evidence of the military’s dedication to eradicating threats to national security. Pictures of recovered items, arms, and ammunitions are attached below”.
