WATCH THE VIDEO HERE THE death toll from a road accident in Saminaka, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has risen to 40. The tragic incident, which took place around 1 pm on Sunday, primarily involved children who were en route to celebrate Eid El Maulud, a Muslim festival commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad. The bus they were travelling in lost control and collided with an articulated vehicle, reportedly due to over speeding and overloading. The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kabiru Nadabo, initially revealed that 25 people had died from the accident, while 48 others sustained various injuries and were rushed to hospitals in Kaduna, Jos, and Kano for urgent treatment. However by this morning, the death toll had risen to 40, as more victims succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment. In response to the tragedy, Governor Uba Sani instructed the state health commissioner to ensure that the injured children receive proper medical care. In a statement, the governor expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and promised to support the families of the deceased. Meanwhile, the victims’ bodies have been laid to rest in Lere Local Government Area, in accordance with Islamic burial rites.
