THE Kaduna State Police Command has arrested three alleged child traffickers and rescued 17 minors in Zaria, following intelligence that revealed suspicious movement of children under the Danmagaji Flyover.
Police spokesperson Mansir Hassan confirmed the arrests in a statement today, noting that detectives from the Danmagaji Division acted swiftly on the tip-off.
The operatives rescued children of varying ages who were reportedly being transported to Abuja and other destinations within and outside Nigeria.
The suspects — identified as Musa Shuaibu and Sani Mamman from Katsina State, and Mubarak Ismail from Kano — allegedly confessed during interrogation that they had gathered the children from different locations and were moving them to Abuja before they were intercepted.
Hassan stated that all 17 children are in good health and are currently under police protection as efforts continue to locate their parents or guardians.
Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, applauded the division’s prompt response and reiterated the Command’s firm stance against child trafficking.
He cautioned parents against falling for deceptive promises from traffickers offering supposedly better opportunities for their children in major cities.
The Commissioner assured that the suspects will face thorough investigation and prosecution and encouraged the public to report suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest police station.
