AT least three people have been killed and three others abducted following a late-night attack by suspected bandits on the Bundu Kahugu community in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The attack, which occurred around 11pm yesterday, December 29, 2025, plunged the community into mourning and renewed calls for increased security presence in the area.
Confirming the incident, the National Secretary of the Bundu Kahugu community, Ishaya Dauda, told newsmen that the assailants invaded the village under the cover of darkness, firing sporadically and instilling fear among residents.
Dauda noted that the latest assault came barely two weeks after a similar attack on the community, during which four people were killed, raising concerns over the frequency of the violence.
“The attackers arrived late at night and began shooting. Three people were killed on the spot, while three others were taken away. This is the second attack on our community in less than two weeks,” he said.
Those killed in the most recent attack were identified as Felix Augustine, Luka Yakubu and Ezra Namata.
Residents have appealed to the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to urgently deploy military personnel to the area to prevent further attacks.
They also called on telecommunication companies to improve network coverage, noting that poor connectivity often enables the attackers to operate unhindered and escape without resistance.
“We are begging the government to come to our aid. The poor network here is helping the attackers. We need stronger security presence and better communication facilities to protect our people,” Dauda added.
Efforts to obtain a response from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
