Former United States Vice President, Kamala Harris, has suggested she may run for the presidency again in 2028, declaring that she is “not done” with politics.
In an interview with the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, her first in the United Kingdom, Harris said she still envisioned a woman leading the White House.
Asked if she could see herself as president one day, Harris replied, “Possibly.”
“I am not done. I have lived my entire career as a life of service, and it’s in my bones,” she added.
Harris lost to Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, which many Democrats described as “devastating.”
Reflecting on her short campaign following Joe Biden’s withdrawal, she said the late entry into the race made it “almost impossible to win.”
“The popular vote was very tight, with less than 2% in it,” Harris explained, though Trump secured a comfortable victory in the Electoral College.
She recalled her reaction as results came in, “My God, my God, what will happen to our country?”
Despite polls ranking her behind other potential Democratic contenders, including Hollywood star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Harris brushed aside her low ratings.
“If I listened to polls I would not have run for my first office, or my second office, and I certainly wouldn’t be sitting here,” she said.
Harris used the interview to renew her criticism of President Trump, branding him a “tyrant” and insisting her warnings about his leadership style had been vindicated.
“He said he would weaponise the Department of Justice and he has done exactly that,” she said.
She accused Trump of targeting critics, citing the recent suspension of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel after a joke about right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.
“His skin is so thin he couldn’t endure criticism from a joke, and attempted to shut down an entire media organisation in the process,” Harris alleged.
She also criticised corporate America for “bending the knee at the foot of a tyrant… because they want to be next to power, or perhaps have a merger approved or avoid an investigation.”
The White House dismissed Harris’s remarks, accusing her of clinging to political relevance.
“When Kamala Harris lost the election in a landslide, she should’ve taken the hint. The American people don’t care about her absurd lies,” said White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson.
“Or maybe she did take the hint and that’s why she’s continuing to air her grievances to foreign publications.”
Harris, who recently released her memoir 107 Days, is currently on a global book tour. The reemergence has reignited speculation that she may position herself for another run in 2028.
She said, “My grandnieces will, in their lifetime for sure, see a female president. And possibly, it could be me.”
