Kano State was on Wednesday thrown into mourning following the sudden deaths of two serving members of the Kano State House of Assembly, who passed away within the space of an hour.
The deceased lawmakers are Hon. Aminu Sa’adu, who represented the Ungoggo Local Government Area constituency, and Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who represented the Kano Municipal Local Government Area constituency.
Aminu Sa’adu dies after sudden illness
LEADERSHIP earlier reported that Hon. Aminu Sa’adu was the first to die after he reportedly fell ill shortly after arriving at the Assembly complex.
He was said to have been rushed to a hospital for urgent medical attention but could not be saved. News of his death immediately sent shockwaves across the political landscape of the state.
Daneji passes away an hour later
Barely an hour after the death of Hon. Sa’adu, Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji also passed away.
His death was confirmed by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, spokesman to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, in a post on his Facebook page.
He wrote, “Innalillahi Wa Inna Ilaihirrajiun. Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, member representing Kano Municipal at Kano State House of Assembly, died today an hour after the death of his counterpart.”
Both lawmakers were described as active legislators who contributed significantly to legislative debates and constituency representation.
Their sudden deaths have left colleagues, constituents and political observers in deep shock, with tributes and prayers pouring in on social media.
As of press time, the Kano State Government had yet to provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the sudden deaths of the two lawmakers.
