The Kano State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr Dahiru Hashim, has resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) with immediate effect.
Dr Hashim announced his decision in a resignation letter dated Friday, January 23, 2026, which he addressed to the NNPP chairman of Gobirawa Ward in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.
In the letter, he said the decision was taken “in good faith and in the overall best interest of Kano State.”
He explained that his resignation followed careful thought and aligns with the leadership direction and strategic priorities of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, under whose administration he currently serves.
The commissioner thanked the NNPP for the opportunity and support given to him during his time in the party.
He also appreciated the party’s leadership and members in Gobirawa Ward and other areas, noting that his engagement with the NNPP was marked by cooperation and mutual respect.
Dr Hashim’s resignation came just hours after Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf announced his exit from the NNPP.
