THE Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered the revocation of all illegal allocations and encroachments on the land belonging to Northwest University, Kano.
The directive was issued as he received the institution’s first female Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Amina Bayero.
The governor also instructed that all outstanding earned academic allowances owed to staff of the state-owned university be settled before the end of December.
He gave the orders during the 35th State Executive Council meeting, when the university’s Pro-Chancellor led members of the Governing Council and management on a courtesy visit to formally present Prof. Bayero as the new Vice-Chancellor.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, Yusuf commended the Governing Council for appointing a substantive Vice-Chancellor through what he described as a rigorous and transparent process, noting that such leadership was vital for the institution’s stability and growth.
He assured the university of continued government support in its pursuit of academic excellence.
The governor further directed the Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning to review the university’s land assets and revoke all illegal allocations and encroachments allegedly carried out under the previous administration, stressing that the institution’s property must be protected.
Earlier, Pro-Chancellor Prof. Hafiz Abubakar said the selection process for the Vice-Chancellor lasted about 10 months and was unanimously approved by the Governing Council.
Prof. Bayero speaking, expressed appreciation for the appointment and pledged to implement her 14-point agenda aimed at strengthening academic standards, administration, and the overall development of the university.
