Kano Governor Sets New Date For Defection To APC

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has again rescheduled his much‑anticipated defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following several postponements.

According to Daily Nigerian, the governor is said to have revealed the updated timeline for his defection past midnight on Thursday during a closed‑door session with members of the Kano State House of Assembly.

According to a source at the meeting who spoke on condition of anonymity, Governor Yusuf laid out a three‑day timetable for his exit from the NNPP and formal entry into the APC.

The source said the governor told lawmakers that Saturday will be the day he formally resigns from the NNPP, Sunday is earmarked for his declaration of joining the APC, while Monday will be reserved for the collection of his APC membership card.

Governor Yusuf also informed the legislators that he had agreed with the APC national leadership on a “60 per cent stake” for himself in the party.

He disclosed that a committee will be inaugurated to work out the modalities on how he would take up the majority stake ahead of the party’s forthcoming congress.

Addressing questions about his political godfather, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Governor Yusuf said it was at the instance of the lawmakers that he met with the President in a bid to persuade Kwankwaso to join him.

Although plans were allegedly underway for the President to meet with Kwankwaso on Tuesday, sources indicated that the meeting may have been cancelled.

According to Daily Nigerian, Kwankwaso has no intention of joining the APC, as talks on an alliance with former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have reportedly reached an advanced stage.
