The crisis rocking the Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has deepened following the appointment of Abdullahi Zubairu Imam Abiya as the Acting State Chairman of the party.

Abiya’s appointment followed the removal of the former state chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, who was reportedly rejected after his sack at the ward level.

The appointment was subsequently endorsed by the NNPP State Executive Committee during an emergency meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Kano.

Announcing the decision, the party’s Assistant Legal Adviser, Barrister Yusuf Mukhtar, said the emergence of Abiya as Acting Chairman was in line with the provisions of the NNPP constitution.

Mukhtar explained that the State Executive Committee acted based on due process and existing party guidelines.

According to Daily Post, party sources disclosed that the development followed the submission of a formal resolution by the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Executive Committee, recommending the sack and expulsion of Dungurawa from the party.

Earlier, the Dawakin Tofa Executive Committee, led by Hon. Abdullahi Ali Uban Iya Dawanau, had forwarded a resolution from the Gargari Ward Executive Committee to the state leadership of the NNPP.

The resolution was adopted during the second executive meeting of the Gargari Ward, held two weeks after the general election.

According to the ward executives, Dungurawa was accused of engaging in anti-party activities, a development that prompted calls for his removal.

After reviewing the report and recommendations, the State Executive Committee endorsed the decision and approved Abiya’s emergence as Acting State Chairman.

Party officials said the move was aimed at restoring internal discipline, strengthening cohesion within the party and repositioning the NNPP for future political engagements in Kano State.

Reacting to his appointment, the Acting Chairman of the NNPP in Kano State, Hon. Abdullahi Zubairu Imam Abiya, assured party members of fairness and unity under his leadership.

He said, “The party will ensure justice for all members and remain loyal to our national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.”

Abiya also pledged to work towards stabilising the party and consolidating its gains in the state ahead of future political contests.
