The trailer for In Whose Name?, a new Kanye West documentary, debuted this week, offering an intimate yet tense look at the rapper’s life, including his relationship with ex-wife Kim Kardashian.
The trailer begins with Ye walking around a circle of Yeezy sneakers. The minute-long clip features him saying, “I’m off my meds for five months now.” A tearful Kardashian tells him, “Your personality was not like this a few years ago.”
Other moments in the trailer include Ye and his 11-year-old daughter North in the back of a vehicle, and the rapper declaring, “Never tell me I’m gonna wake up one day and have nothing.” When Kardashian replies, “We can talk about that later, but,” West cuts her off: “It ain’t no but!”
Directed by Nico Ballesteros, the film compiles six years of footage and hits about 1,000 theaters on September 19.
The trailer avoids West’s history of antisemitic remarks but includes 2020 presidential campaign footage, including his claim he and Kardashian nearly aborted North.
Yealso says, “I’d rather be dead than to be on medication. Either they destroy me or I destroy it,” and, “They’re killing our ability to think outside of the box.” It ends with: “Anything you do and say is an art piece.”
