A Los Angeles judge has ruled that Kanye West must appear in person for a deposition within the next 30 days as part of an ongoing lawsuit filed by a former employee of his Donda Academy.
The decision comes after multiple delays in getting Ye to answer questions under oath.
The lawsuit, filed in April 2024 by Trevor Phillips, paints a troubling picture of life inside Ye’s private school. Phillips claims he worked at the academy and says Ye frequently shared antisemitic views with staff. He also alleges that Ye once suggested shaving students’ heads and even talked about building a jail on the school grounds.
Phillips further accuses the musician of “berating and bullying” Black employees, including himself. His suit lists harassment, discrimination, and the creation of a hostile work environment among its claims. Phillips is seeking monetary damages for what he describes as mistreatment during his time at the school.
Despite repeated attempts by Phillips’ legal team to get Ye to sit for questioning, each effort reportedly fell through. The judge’s order now sets a firm deadline, meaning West will finally have to face Phillips’ attorneys and answer questions directly.
