Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu scored a brace for Trabzonspor in their dramatic 4-3 victory over Fatih Karagumruk at the Ataturk Olimpiyat on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Onuachu led the line for Trabzonspor when they traveled to Istanbul to take on Karagumruk at their 75,000-capacity stadium.

Both clubs hadn’t had many high goalscoring games since the Turkish Super Lig kicked off, so it was expected to be a game that would feature just a few goals. However, the players had different ideas.

Trabzonspor opened the scoring early in the 19th minute, as Felipe Augusto finished with aplomb, off a fine assist from Wagner Pina.

But just nine minutes later, Karagumruk leveled the scoring, courtesy of a strike from Tiago Cukur.

However, Onuachu quickly took the law into his own hands and turned the game on its head by virtue of his personal brilliance.

In the 35th minute, the Super Eagles striker latched onto a cross from Pina in the box and struck a wicked overhead kick that found the bottom-left corner of the net.

Then, in the eighth minute of stoppage time, Onuachu struck again. This time, from the penalty spot, off a penalty he won following a VAR review.

Fatih Karagumruk dominated the early proceedings in the second half, but they failed to score. Then, in the 88th minute of play, the visitors took the initiative and scored their fourth to put the game to bed.

The home home side put up a fight in the dying minutes of the game, with David Datro Fofana scoring in the first and second minute of second-half stoppages. But it was not enough, as Trabzonspor ran out with the 4-3 win.

Onuachu was the best player for the Black Sea Storm, with Sofascore rating his performance a handsome 8.4.

His second goal would surely be considered for the Puskas Award at the FIFA Best Awards later this year. It would not be strange for him though, as he was also nominated for the award in 2024, but he was ranked 10th.
