KATSINA: Bandits attack Mai-Rana village, kill Miyetti Allah chairman and others

Sources reported that during the attack, which occurred around 11:30 PM, two other individuals were also killed, and several others sustained injuries. The deceased chairman’s two wives and daughter, an undergraduate, were abducted by the attackers.

According to the source, Rufa’i’s first wife was later released by the assailants.

Police spokesperson Abubakar Sadiq confirmed the incident, stating that bandits invaded Rufa’i’s residence, shot him, and kidnapped his wife and daughter.

“A gunfight ensued when law enforcement tracked the suspects to Kofa village, forcing them to flee due to the police’s superior firepower. Unfortunately, two individuals were fatally shot during the bandits’ escape. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, and further updates will be provided as the investigation continues,” the statement read.

Prior to his death, Rufa’i served as the state secretary of the Katsina State Chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and was promoted to acting chairman following the mysterious disappearance of Mannir Atiku Lamido, the National Vice President of MACBAN and the former Katsina State Chairman.

Lamido had left his home in Katsina on June 23, 2024, for Kaduna State, informing family members via phone that he had stopped in Zaria for a meal. His location became unknown after family and friends were unable to contact him a few hours later, with his two phones later found in his vehicle parked along the Maraban Jos road.
